The Tenants Union operates a drop-in counseling clinic for nonmembers as wells as members. Hours for the clinic include daytime, evening and weekend hours. Since the actual hours can vary each week, tenants should CHECK OUR SCHEDULE or call 415-282-6622 for the schedule RIGHT BEFORE COMING. All counselors are volunteers and this schedule is subject to change on short notice.
Counselors are trained to answer virtually any question regarding your rights as a tenant or subtenant. However, if you are a master tenant seeking help in evicting a subtenant, we cannot provide you with counseling. We suggest you contact a landlord attorney. Also, if you have been served with a “Summons & Complaint For Unlawful Detainer,” we will not be able to help.Bring it and all your paperwork to the Eviction Defense Collaborative. Click here for the Eviction Defense Collaborative’s website.
Please plan to arrive so there’s adequate time for the counselor to discuss your case with you before the shift ends; shifts followed by a break may close early if the shift is full. Busy shifts may require waiting for more than an hour, so bring something to do. The best time to come is in the middle of a long stretch of open hours.
Since the Tenants Union is a membership supported organization, we ask that nonmembers make a donation when they come in (although no one is turned away for lack of funds). Or you can join (and get our handbook and access to phone counseling). Unfortunately, we do not have the capacity to counsel by email. Print and bring your receipt with you. In-Office Rates: $45 Regular, $30 Low Income, $60 Household, $80 Sustainer. (In-office rates do not include shipping of the handbook.)
Click here and download to fill out our intake form. Complete with your paperwork at home and bring a printed copy with the paperwork to the clinic. Bring all relevant paperwork (notices, letters, rental agreements, etc.).
