Drop-In Counseling Clinic

The Tenants Union operates a drop-in counseling clinic for nonmembers and members. Hours for the clinic include daytime, evening and weekend hours. Check the schedule just before coming since the hours can change with short notice because the counselors are volunteers. Unfortunately, we do not have the capacity to counsel by email. For phone counseling, you will need to become a member.

Counselors are trained to answer virtually any question regarding your rights as a tenant or sub-tenant. Please bring in all your paperwork (notices, letters, rental agreement, etc.).

Since the Tenants Union is a membership and donation supported organization, we ask that non-members make a donation when they come in (no one is turned away for lack of funds).

Please note: If you are a master tenant seeking help in evicting a subtenant, we can not provide you with counseling. We suggest you contact a landlord attorney. Additionally, we do not counsel on how to do short-term rentals since they reduce the housing stock. Also, Airbnb had been operating illegally by not paying taxes and listing unregistered units, and enriches investor Ron Conway who funds legislation and politicians against tenants.

If you have been served with a “Summons & Complaint For Unlawful Detainer,” we will not be able to help. Bring it and all your paperwork to the Eviction Defense Collaborative. Click here for the Eviction Defense Collaborative’s website.
