Renters Economic Relief Ballot Measure Will Stop New Rent Increases For Tenants Who Are Unemployed or Have Had Wages Cut

Last year Mayor Newsom vetoed Sup. Chris Daly's Renters Economic Relief Package and the Supervisors were unable to override the veto. On June 8, the main piece of that package will be on the ballot as Proposition F. The measure will let tenants get any rent increases postponed of they are unemployed, have had wages cut by 20% or more or if they did not get a cost of living increase in their government benefits. Tenants must also be paying at least 33% of their income to rent to qualify to get rent increases stopped.
