OMI APARTMENTS WITH INITIAL
RENT LIMITATIONS

    The following apartments were subject to an eviction notice for owner or relative move-in. These apartments can only be re-rented at the same rent the evicted tenant was paying. If you are living in one of these apartments you may be paying too much rent (if the previous tenant moved after getting the OMI notice and you are the first tenant since and you moved in within 3 years of the OMI notice). Or if you see one offered for rent, you may be able to rent it at a rent much lower than that being advertised. Many OMI evictions are for the purpose of re-renting at higher rents and the city does nothing to enforce the provision on re-rental.

How To Use
    This database contains all sites where tenants received eviction notices for owner or relative move in since July of 1998, as filed with the San Francisco Rent Board. The law requiring OMI units to be re-rented at the same rent the evicted tenant was paying took effect on November 1, 1998. Sites listed here with dates prior to 11/1/98 are not subject the the re-rental restrictions.
    The sites are listed by address, apartment number (if any), the rent paid by the evicted tenant, and the date. The Rent Board database does not always list the rent paid. However, this information is contained on the eviction notice which is filed at the Rent Board. You can request a copy of the actual eviction notice from the Rent Board if you are looking into an apartment where the previous rent is not listed.
    In general, verification of data here can be obtained via the actual eviction notice on file at the Rent Board and if you are seriously pursuing one of these units you should obtain a copy of the notice from the Rent Board in case there have been data entry errors.
