Drop-In Counseling Clinic

The Tenants Union operates a drop-in counseling clinic. Hours for the clinic include daytime, evening and weekend hours. Since the actual hours can vary each week, tenants should check our drop-in schedule or call 415-282-6622 for the schedule right before coming in. We regret that we are not wheelchair accessible. (There are two sets of steps about 5 steps each to the entrance.)

Counselors are trained to answer virtually any question regarding your rights as a tenant or subtenant. Bring in all your paperwork (notices, letters, rental agreement, etc.)

Since the Tenants Union is a donation- and membership-supported organization, we ask that nonmembers make a donation when they come in (but no one is turned away for lack of funds). Nonmembers are asked to donate ($20 for people of moderate incomes or above, $10 for people with low income) per visit. Or you can join and get counseling for one year, our handbook, and access to phone counseling.

Please note:
If you are a master tenant seeking help in evicting a subtenant, we cannot provide you with counseling. Contact the San Francisco Rent Board. Additionally, we do not counsel on how to do short-term rentals since they reduce the housing stock. Also, Airbnb had been operating illegally by not paying taxes and enriches investor Ron Conway who funds legislation and politicians against tenants.

If you have been served with a "Summons and Complaint for Unlawful Detainer," we will not be able to help. Bring it and all your paperwork to the Eviction Defense Collaborative.

The SF Tenants Union is supported by your memberships and donations. If you find information on this website useful, or if you want to support our work, please join or donate. Members get even more information via our Tenants Rights Handbook plus access to phone counseling.
